The Interview

1. Hi Ms. Elodie, tell me something about yourself?

I’m French, I lived in Germany and now call Maryland home. I will never lose my French accent. I love cheese. And wine. Oh and a Nobel Prize of Economics did carry my suitcase last year 🙂

2. What inspires you to write “Always Second Best”?

When I first wrote the first book in the Broken Dreams series, Emilia was a secondary character with a tiny role. But for some reason, she spoke to me. And I already knew she was going to be with Nick. Then, their stories got louder and louder and I knew she was struggling with feeling like she was always “second” never “first”. Nick…oh Nick. Nick has a lot of issues, but overall he just gets Em. He understands her and he really wants the best for her.

Those characters inspired me.

3. Do you love ballet a lot , that’s why the theme of your story is about ballet dancing?

I do love ballet. I used to dance (not professionally at all though) when I was little and I dreamed about becoming a ballerina. I even went to the Opera de Paris after winning a poetry contest when I was maybe six years old and was mesmerized by what I saw. The first book I wrote in this series was Natalya’s story…after talking about Center Stage on Twitter, she just spoke to me and then I did research to understand more about the ballet world and the dedication it takes to get to that level.

4. Tell us about Broken Dreams series?

The Broken Dreams series is all about first times and second chances. It’s about finding oneself even when everything seems to go the wrong way and love.

Most of the books also center around the ballet world, but two of them will actually not have anything to do with ballet 🙂 They will be about secondary characters from One Two Three. One is about Camilo, the “bad boy” of that novel, and the other about Becca, Natalya’s best friend.

5. Who is your favorite characters in your book?

Oh tough question. I love love love all characters in this book, even the ones who may not seem all that great. But the one that I especially love is Nonna. Em’s grandmother. She’s sweet and strong and is there for her grandkids and she’s funny. Loved writing her and getting into her head.
